Editorial standards and corrections
Evidence first. Clear attribution. Visible corrections.
Our three editorial formats
India Explained answers a concrete question with background, consequences and open questions. The Data Behind the News publishes inspectable values alongside charts, dataset links, methods and limitations. Developing Stories retains a dated chronology on one permanent story page.
Reporting and attribution
External source reports are labelled and link to their publishers. They are distinct from Pulse articles. Our editorial formats identify the author and reviewer, cite primary documents or datasets, and explain the contribution made beyond the cited material. A source label is not a guarantee: the editor must check the original evidence, its date and its scope before publication.
Data and uncertainty
Coverage temperature describes headlines, not public opinion, election forecasts or official statistics. Data articles identify their dataset publisher, period, unit, method and limits. Downloaded CSV files contain the plotted values, not necessarily the complete source dataset. Estimates and incomplete information must be labelled in the reporting.
Automation and editorial responsibility
Feeds and software assist discovery, aggregation and publishing. Software checks cannot establish truth, originality or the quality of analysis. The author and reviewer named on an editorial-format article remain responsible for checking every claim and source; an automated draft is not a substitute for that review.
Updates and corrections
Developing coverage retains earlier updates. A correction is added as a new dated entry linked to the earlier entry, rather than silently rewriting the chronology. An unchanged upload does not refresh the public update date. A closed story is labelled closed.
