Bengaluru police said on October29 that preliminary evidence in the investigation of a purported sting video involving former chief minister Siddaramaiah did not substantiate the incident depicted. The Indian Express and South First report the police’s findings and the continuing inquiry. These are attributed preliminary conclusions, not a final court determination about every person linked to the recording.

The Indian Express reports that the original mobile phone allegedly used to record the video has been traced, recovered and seized. It has been sent for forensic examination, with the report awaited. Recovering a device provides an opportunity to examine authenticity and integrity; it does not mean that all forensic questions have already been answered.

Police said the people appearing in the video had been identified and questioned, some more than once. The recording was allegedly made in 2023 about an incident said to date to 2011. Investigators are examining that gap and reconstructing how the material moved from its recording to circulation on social media in September and October2026. The dates matter because an old recording can acquire a new political context when it is redistributed.

The reports describe anonymous online accounts and technical steps allegedly used to conceal uploaders’ identities. The Express also records a Delhi-linked device trail and the arrest and same-day bail of a person on October24. His reported account of instructions from another person remains under investigation. This Pulse does not convert that account into a finding of party responsibility or reproduce unproven personal allegations.

Police are examining whether several people were involved in planning or amplification. The possibility of coordination is explicitly a subject of inquiry. A forensic report, a documented chain of custody and responses from implicated people would be more useful than assuming that politically convenient timing proves a covert operation. The immediate news is the recovered phone and the police’s stated preliminary assessment.

The distinction between recovering a phone and establishing a recording’s history is important. Investigators still have to connect the device, its contents, any transfers and the eventual uploads through documented evidence. A claim about one link cannot establish every other link. Publication of a preliminary police account also leaves room for later forensic findings and judicial examination to change the picture.

South First attributes the preliminary statement to the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner’s office. The Express reports the same police position through its own account. These are two newsroom reports, but the common police statement is one evidentiary source. Their agreement verifies what police said; it does not amount to two independent forensic examinations of the material.

The reports place the alleged original recording in 2023 and its renewed circulation three years later. A genuine timestamp on one file would not necessarily explain every later edit or repost. Investigators need to establish which version each person possessed and what was uploaded. That is why the pending technical report and documented transfer history matter more than the mere number of platforms on which a clip appears.

Strategies and tactics: the evidence. The documented mechanism under examination is the circulation of a purported recording through accounts whose ownership police are trying to trace. That supports scrutiny of provenance and amplification. It does not yet establish who directed the circulation, whether all sharers knew its status, or a coordinated political motive.

Independent forwarding, mistaken belief in the recording and incomplete police findings are serious alternatives. Authentic forensic evidence contradicting the preliminary account would require the desk to revise its reading. What chain-of-custody information can investigators publish without compromising the inquiry or the rights of those involved?
